Meridia is pleased to partner with this growing firm in the search for a talented Controls Engineer who shares a passion for engineering craft, system performance, and meaningful, day‑to‑day impact.

Role Description

As a Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in evaluating, designing, and specifying control systems across building and industrial applications. You will translate operational objectives into robust automation architectures, develop clear documentation and drawings, and ensure designs are grounded in real‑world constraints and best practices. Your work will span concept development, implementation oversight, programming, verification, and commissioning support.

You will have the opportunity to be deeply engaged throughout the project lifecycle. This includes construction observation, troubleshooting and system validation, and site start‑up activities that bring integrated systems online. You will program PLCs, develop HMI and SCADA solutions, integrate controllers and third‑party systems, and uphold high standards in controls logic, alarming, historization, and cybersecurity fundamentals.

Collaboration and stewardship are central to the role. You will work closely with design teams, contractors, operators, and vendors, ensuring that systems are coordinated, intuitive to operate, and built for long‑term reliability. You will manage project scopes and schedules, maintain clear documentation, support training efforts, and communicate transparently with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Design and Specification
  • Evaluate, design, and specify control systems for building and industrial environments.
  • Develop control system architectures, network topology, sequences of operation, and integration plans.
  • Prepare detailed drawings, narratives, and project documentation.
  • Select software, hardware, and communication protocols appropriate to application needs.
Implementation and Observation
  • Conduct construction observation to verify that installations align with design intent.
  • Support the integration and installation of BAS, PLC, and SCADA systems.
  • Participate in site start‑up and commissioning to validate system performance.
Programming and Integration
  • Program PLCs, with strong preference for Allen Bradley and Rockwell platforms.
  • Develop and configure HMI and SCADA interfaces using tools such as Factory Talk, Cimplicity, Wonderware, or Ignition.
  • Integrate field controllers, PLCs, SCADA solutions, and third‑party systems with disciplined engineering practices.
Testing, Verification, and Troubleshooting
  • Perform system testing, verification, and commissioning following established standards.
  • Diagnose automation issues, conduct root‑cause analysis, and apply practical solutions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of configurations, revisions, and system modifications.
Project and Team Coordination
  • Manage engineering scope, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Communicate progress and technical matters clearly to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide technical support to operational staff.
Your Qualifications
  • Experience installing or designing Building Automation Systems (BAS) and/or Plant Control Systems.
  • Knowledge of system hierarchy, network topology, communication protocols, and integration fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with industry standards including ISO 16484‑1:2024(en).
  • Hands‑on experience with PLC programming and HMI/SCADA development.
  • Strong analytical skills and a calm, methodical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Ability to produce clear documentation and engineering drawings that support effective construction and operations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, operators, contractors, and cross‑functional teams.
Impact of the Role

In this position, you will directly influence the reliability and performance of systems relied upon every day by operators and building occupants. You will strengthen relationships through responsiveness, technical clarity, and high‑quality work, and contribute to systems built for long‑term success and real‑world durability. This is an opportunity to join a team that values curiosity, craftsmanship, and engineering integrity.
