Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

This Mechanical Engineer role leads the mechanical design and development of advanced industrial equipment from concept through production. You will design complex components and assemblies, perform engineering analysis, support prototype testing and product validation, and ensure that all designs meet performance, quality, safety, manufacturing, and cost objectives. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across the product lifecycle, create clear engineering documentation, participate in design reviews, support production and procurement activities, and drive continuous improvement through testing and process optimization.

Responsibilities

+ Lead the mechanical design and development of advanced industrial and capital equipment, including complex components and assemblies.

+ Perform mechanical engineering analysis to ensure designs meet performance, reliability, safety, and durability requirements.

+ Develop detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using Solid Works, ensuring accuracy and manufacturability.

+ Support prototype builds, including overseeing assembly, troubleshooting issues, and refining designs based on test results.

+ Plan, execute, and support prototype testing and product validation activities to confirm design performance and compliance.

+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, procurement, quality, and controls/automation, to align designs with project requirements.

+ Ensure designs meet manufacturing and cost objectives by incorporating design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly principles.

+ Create and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and design reports.

+ Participate in and contribute to formal design reviews, incorporating feedback to improve product performance and quality.

+ Support production activities by resolving mechanical design issues, implementing design changes, and providing technical guidance.

+ Assist procurement and supply chain teams by clarifying specifications, evaluating mechanical components, and supporting vendor discussions.

+ Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for design optimization, process enhancements, and cost reduction.

+ Incorporate basic understanding of industrial control systems, sensors, automation, and robotics into mechanical designs to ensure system integration.

+ Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety, quality, and industry standards throughout the product lifecycle.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering.

+ 5+ years of professional mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.

+ Proven experience designing complex capital equipment or advanced industrial machinery.

+ Strong mechanical design and mechanical engineering skills, including component and assembly design.

+ Proficiency with Solid Works for 3D modeling and detailed engineering drawings.

+ Experience supporting prototype testing and product validation activities.

+ Ability to ensure designs meet performance, quality, safety, manufacturing, and cost objectives.

+ Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across the product lifecycle.

+ Basic understanding of industrial control systems, sensors, automation, and robotics and how they interface with mechanical designs.

+ Strong documentation skills for creating engineering drawings, specifications, and reports.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience working with capital equipment in a production or industrial environment.

+ Familiarity with design-for-manufacture and design-for-assembly principles.

+ Experience participating in formal design reviews and incorporating feedback into design iterations.

+ Background in supporting production and procurement activities related to mechanical components and systems.

+ Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement through testing, analysis, and process optimization.

+ Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues during prototype and production phases.

Work Environment

The role operates in a manufacturing and engineering environment focused on advanced industrial and capital equipment. You will spend time in both office and shop-floor settings, working with Solid Works and other engineering tools to develop detailed mechanical designs and documentation. On the manufacturing floor, you will interact with prototypes and production equipment, support testing and validation activities, and collaborate closely with production, procurement, and cross-functional engineering teams.

The position typically follows standard full-time working hours, with additional time as needed during critical project phases. Appropriate attire is expected for both office and manufacturing areas, including adherence to safety and personal protective equipment requirements when working around equipment and prototype builds.
