Responsibilities
As a Housing Options Officer, you will manage a caseload of homeless households to ensure the Council meets its statutory duty and finds suitable solutions for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Your role includes triaging and assessing applications, providing advice and housing options, making appropriate support referrals and identifying suitable housing pathways to prevent homelessness. You will identify statutory homeless duties, make decisions under the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017), and act as a decision maker responsible for making section 184 decisions and writing complex decision letters.
Qualifications- Dedicated individual with a passion to end rough sleeping in the Horsham District.
- Self‑motivated, able to prioritise workload with face‑to‑face and telephone contact with homeless applicants.
- Experience working within a large team and in a multi‑agency environment.
- Willingness to participate in the out of hours homelessness rota (approx. one week in ten, for which you will receive additional payment).
- Experience working with vulnerable tenants and a background in housing (transferable skills and willingness to learn are valued).
