Job Description

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines is recruiting for a Field Director, Lung Oncology – Western US. The territory includes Texas, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska, Southern California, Utah, and Washington.

The Field Director is responsible for leading a Lung Oncology Medical Science Liaison (MSL) regional team in providing scientific, research, and educational support to health care professionals and internal partners related to current and future Janssen Lung Oncology products.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with the MSL Head to set and drive strategy for the region and organized providers.
  • Ensure a strong clinical engagement strategy for each territory within the region and conduct routine strategy reviews with each MSL direct report.
  • Provide support, coaching, and development to each direct report (MSLs) using the competency model, routine feedback, and field observation.
  • Execute field Medical Affairs programs, including product launches, proactive initiatives, and HCP engagement.
  • Maintain scientific acumen, presentation skills, and soft skill abilities of each MSL.
  • Stay abreast of scientific information and disease states to proficiently interact on the topic and support model and coaching.
  • Implement listening priorities and collect/analyze medical insights.
  • Embodies positive change leadership, maintains performance, professionalism, and integrity in stressful situations and multiple task settings; coordinates with other Medical Affairs and Scientific Affairs personnel.
  • Plan and coordinate priorities, identify solutions, and recommend actions to management.
  • Collaborate with local and regional internal business partners to meet scientific needs of customers.
  • Provide oversight of all activities in accordance with current regulatory and health care compliance guidelines.
  • Recruit and retain a diverse team of top talent, inspiring and motivating members.
  • Oversee team’s training, development, and field activity level, ensuring optimal capacity and metrics.
  • Manage team through special projects and cross‑functional support activities.
  • Provide career and succession planning for staff.
  • Promote an optimal working environment by communicating clear direction, active listening, respecting diversity, encouraging collaboration, empowering direct reports, following up on commitments, and rewarding high performance.
  • Complete administrative duties such as expense reports, metric reports, and other timely tasks.
  • Co‑lead communication of MSL team achievement updates to internal partners and management.
  • Maintain compliant, routine communication with all partners, including Lung Specialists, District Managers, KAMs, Lung Clinical Educators, and MSL leaders.
  • Participate in business planning activities across brands and within Medical Affairs, ensuring training and execution of proactive initiatives and permissible field activities.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a graduate medical/scientific degree (PhD, Pharm

    D, NP, PA, MD, DO).
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience, including at least 5 years in healthcare/pharmaceutical or medical device industry.
  • Experience as an MSL or Field Medical Manager.
  • Previous people‑management responsibility, including onboarding and training new hires.
  • Oncology experience highly preferred.
  • Requires approximately 70% travel (includes overnight travel).
  • Must maintain an office in the home and live in close proximity to an airport.
  • Must be available for national scientific congresses, key strategic/scientific meetings across the US, and at the corporate office in Horsham, PA.
