Preconstruction Executive

Position Summary

The Preconstruction Executive is responsible for providing the leadership and support necessary to successfully grow Southland Industries’ business in revenue and operating income. This role will drive growth through new customer acquisition and identify opportunities that derive from the existing customer base.

• Market by understanding the relationship of cash flow and overhead, utilizing that knowledge to sell work at the right price, and maximizing profits to exceed corporate financial goals by knowing costs, monitoring value engineering, scope changes, and change order opportunities.
• Develop and execute a business plan for marketing; support and enhance a collateral working relationship with the division construction manager and other contract executives, and manage personnel requirements, overhead/capital requirements, and revenue/profit projections.
• Accurately forecast total project costs and profits for every project to ensure proper pricing and efficient management using labor feedback, materials management, and financial analysis techniques.
• Understand projected revenue, margins, overhead, and profits to provide the division with the projected and expected rate of return through sales efforts.
• Demonstrate leadership to represent the company’s image and provide a role model for all employees, instilling confidence through ethical behavior, commitment, diligence, hard work, and continuous improvement.
• Provide direct leadership and management to the assigned division’s project managers, project engineers, and project foremen.
• Foster team spirit by committing extra time and effort to assist all profit centers and support teams, assisting estimating, accounting, and field by freely providing time for peer and subordinate growth.
• Build mutually beneficial long‑term relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to secure best pricing and quality, treating all relationships with fairness and focusing on the corporate mission.
• Commit to delivering internal customers all necessary support to run the company efficiently, ensuring quality and high morale by meeting paperwork deadlines, commitments, and corporate meetings.
• Actively participate in corporate training to build an educated workforce and promote the importance of continuing education for all team members.
• Actively participate in industry organizations as a leader to promote Southland Industries’ capabilities.

• Experience with HVAC, plumbing, process piping systems, business management, sales, marketing, and operations.
• Good interpersonal communication skills, both internally and with clients and vendors.
• Solid understanding of contracts and the ability to formulate business correspondence.
• BS or BA degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent of 8+ years of experience.
