Join Our Team as a Construction Observer

RJN employees answer, “Yes!” to all these questions and more. We are currently seeking a Construction Observer to join the RJN family.

Position Summary

This role involves assisting senior construction staff in inspecting civil construction projects, including underground piping, sewer systems, and pump stations, ensuring compliance with specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete training with senior staff on field inspections.
  • Assist in managing construction projects, tracking quantities, reviewing pay requests, and quality assurance.
  • Attend meetings, prepare agendas and minutes.
  • Perform field inspections, interpret drawings and codes, and document observations.
  • Use testing procedures, inspection techniques, and perform QA/QC functions.
  • Coordinate with contractors, property owners, and officials, enforcing quality standards.
  • Maintain inspection records and safety protocols.
  • Prepare reports, review as-built drawings, and assist with utility inspections.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Skills & Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s in Construction Management or related field, or Associate’s with 2+ years relevant experience.
    • Ability to interpret instructions, drawings, and specifications.
    • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, water and wastewater systems, and safety standards.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, email, and iOS tablets.
    • Valid driver’s license with a good record.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    Physical & Work Environment

    Must be able to stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in various weather conditions, wearing proper safety gear as required.
