Job Summary
The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides skilled nursing care focused on maternal and fetal well-being during labor and delivery. This role involves monitoring labor progression, assisting with deliveries, managing obstetric emergencies, and delivering postpartum education. The nurse also floats to the Medical-Surgical floor when Labor & Delivery services are not available, ensuring continuity of high-quality patient care. Strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and emotional support to patients and families are essential.
A current Montana RN license and experience in both Labor & Delivery and Med Surg are required.
- Monitor maternal and fetal well-being throughout labor and delivery.
- Manage labor progression and assist with deliveries.
- Respond promptly and effectively to obstetric emergencies.
- Administer medications and perform cervical exams within scope of practice.
- Interpret fetal monitoring strips and prepare patients for operative deliveries.
- Provide postpartum education and emotional support to patients and families.
- Float to the Medical-Surgical floor when Labor & Delivery services are closed, delivering patient care as needed.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Current Montana Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Experience in Labor & Delivery nursing.
- Experience in Medical-Surgical nursing.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Strong clinical judgment and effective communication skills.
- Additional certifications related to obstetrics or maternal-newborn nursing.
- Experience with operative deliveries and advanced fetal monitoring techniques.
- Must be willing and able to float between Labor & Delivery and Medical-Surgical units as needed.
- Ability to respond quickly to obstetric emergencies and provide emotional support during critical moments.
- Day shift schedule primarily focused on Labor & Delivery.
- Shift assignments may vary based on unit needs, including Medical-Surgical floor coverage.
