JOB SUMMARYPerforms responsible supervisory work relative to the operation of anintracity transit system.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Makes daily trips along bus routes; observes route efficiency and mannerin which drivers are performing their tasks and operating the buses.
- Advises and instructs drivers and service personnel on departmentalpolicies and procedures and ensures compliance.
- Assists Resident Advisor in departmental planning, operational improvements, and budget monitoring.
- Answers complaints by the public.
- Collects fare boxes.
- Ensures system safety and security.
- Investigates accidents; performs related office paperwork and reporting in coordination with departmental administrative personnel. This includes the determination of post-accident or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
- Supervises the work of bus drivers and service personnel; provide straining and instruction; conducts employee performance appraisals; interviews job applicants.
- Assigns vehicles to routes and drivers.
- Works with Fleet Service regarding vehicle defects, repairs,availability, and preventive maintenance.
- Oversees the discipline of drivers and service personnel.
- Interacts with the public to observe and maintain customer relations.
- May act as Resident Advisor in his/her absence; may fill in for bus drivers when necessary.
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
- Serve as a fill-in Bus Driver in the event of a driver shortage

Works under general supervision of an administrative superior.
Supervision Exercised:Monitors and directs the operation of fixed route and paratransitservices.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; and two (2) years in the transit industry; some supervisory experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (Class B with Pendorsement) and a clean driving record.
- Subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
- Knowledge of the modern methods, techniques, and equipment involved inbus transportation systems including the use of specialized hardware and software.
- Knowledge of the geographic and population characteristics of the city.
- Knowledge of safety practices and precautions.
- Knowledge of bus operations.
- Knowledge of pertinent rules and requirements of the Federal Transit Administration and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Ability to contact the public and explain policies or resolve complaints in a courteous manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to plan, lay out, and develop routes and schedules; and to supervise the work of drivers and service personnel.
- Ability to develop and institute preventive maintenance procedures.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
Frequently stands, walks, talks, and hears; occas ionally sits; useshands to handle objects; reaches with hands and arms. Specific vision requirements include close, color,distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
