Junior Project Manager
The Junior Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of complex fabrication and construction projects. Working closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Production, Quality, Procurement and Client representatives, this role helps ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to customer specifications. This position is designed for entry-level professionals and provides hands-on exposure to project management within a heavy industrial fabrication environment.
EssentialFunctions
- Work closely with Division Leadership to plan and develop scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan, budget, schedule etc. in order to effectively execute the project contract(s)
- Track project schedules, milestones, deliverables and action items to help ensure timely project execution
- Maintain positive liaison with customers, on site customer inspectors, management etc. to ensure open line of communication regarding customer concerns, complaints, change orders etc. and follow up accordingly with all applicable company management and supervisors
- Strategize, implement and maintain project initiatives that achieve organizational objectives
- Assist with reviewing customer specifications, drawings, contracts and technical documents to understand project requirements
- Work with field personnel, shop supervisors and department managers to gather project status information
- Support cost tracking efforts by compiling project expenditures, labor hours, budget information and return on investment
- Maintain organized project records, including correspondence, submittals, change requests and project files
- Identify opportunities for optimization and / or improvement of the division's policies, practices, work flows etc.
- Identify risks, mitigation strategies and opportunities across multiple projects within the division
- Collaborate with other Project Managers or Program Managers on recurring items
- Submit routine and ad hoc, internal and external reporting
- Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting agendas, notes and follow-up action logs
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Maritime Management, Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Management or related field
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)
- Ability to learn project scheduling and project management software
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to spend time in both office and fabrication yard environments
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and physical
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Previous experience in construction, fabrication or oil and gas preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing
- Turning, twisting, bending and balancing
- Pushing, pulling and reaching
- Must be able to lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 pounds
- Office equipment
- PPE
This role is within an office environment. 30% percent of the work activities are performed outside, within a fabrication yard environment. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet, and dry conditions, dust, mud, etc.
