About This JobThe overall function of this position is to assist professional engineers and/or higher level inspectors in the performance of construction inspection work and general contract administration duties required of a District Project Engineer’s Construction Office. The incumbent must be self-motivated and able to perform duties with minimal supervision and interpret unforeseen conditions as they arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD training programs and attend continuing education classes and conferences as necessary to perform required tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
- Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.
- Utilizes a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department procedures, policies, standards and specifications in the inspection of construction work and/or in the completion and/or processing of construction-related documents such as field diaries and partial and final estimates.
- Enters construction project data into appropriate computer databases or applications (Site Manager & LIMS). Applies DOTD engineering policies and procedures to normal work situations in the Project Engineers' Office and/or at construction sites.
- Serves as primary construction inspector in area(s) of specialization or certification. Determines sample requirements for area(s) of expertise. Verifies elevations/alignments for surveys. Reviews haul tickets to determine compliance with authorized/approved load quantities/volume.
- Prepares work reports, estimates quantities, and performs mathematical calculations necessary to complete paperwork. May serve as the primary asphalt plant technician.
- Completes required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing construction inspection and completing necessary documentation. May provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower level technicians and/or consultant personnel.
- Attends preconstruction and progress meetings when designated as primary construction inspector for a project. Determines anticipated quantities and provides construction insight for projects in design phase.

- Construction Inspector 1 - $14.98/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
- Construction Inspector 2 - $17.15/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
- Construction Inspector 3 - $19.63/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
- Construction Inspector 4 - $22.47/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Construction Inspector 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
