About This Job
This is a full-time position located at the State Library in Baton Rouge, LA. This position performs all aspects of original cataloging and authority work of materials in all formats, especially Louisiana Collection Materials, including state public documents. Requires extensive effective communication with the Technical Services Manager and other Cataloging staff, Recorder of Documents Office, Louisiana Collection staff, and IT staff.
Work is complex and requires a high degree of attention to detail, knowledge of library automation, cataloging practices, and local, national, and international standards and their applications, and the ability to work independently as well as in a cooperative team atmosphere.

Minimum QualificationsA master's degree in library science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association.
Job Duties- Performs original cataloging in all formats according to established local practices, RDA, AACR2r, LCSH, DDC, MARC format, and Dublin Core requirements
- Searches appropriate and available online or local databases for bibliographic records to import into ILS as needed
- Furnishes current classification numbers and subject headings for items when requested and checks consistency and accuracy of all serial and monographic records
- Works with Recorder of Documents, Louisiana Government Documents Librarian, and Technical Services Manager to establish effective workflows and accurate capture of bibliographic information of public documents
- Establishes and maintains procedures for creating and uploading data into Digital Archive
- Maintains awareness of changes in RDA, LCSH, MARC format, DDC, CONTENTdm, and ILS protocols, communicating as necessary to other cataloging staff
- Other duties as required
- Works with Louisiana Collection staff on projects, particularly digitizing and processing existing items
- Assists with other library projects as requested, including practical support for the Louisiana Book Festival
- Investigates issues related to ILS and Digital Archive displays, indexing, and format changes, communicating with ILS system administrator and IT staff as needed
- Investigates and resolves discrepancies in the catalog according to local practices, national and international standards, and common sense
- Updates procedures manuals as needed
- Co‑teaches State Library LSSC course on Cataloging and Classification
- Participates in professional associations, task forces, and committees as requested
- Participates in training and discussions about digitization of library materials, metadata, and electronic archiving
- Attends conferences and training as possible and reads professional literature to stay current on topics related to metadata, digitization, digital archives, cataloging standards, and technical services
