Responsibilities
- Utilizes flight test techniques to perform functional check flights of aircraft to measure performance and handling to determine airworthiness following maintenance or modifications.
- Interprets meteorological data as it pertains to filing a flight plan for the navigational course of flight needed for a mission or sortie.
- Files flight plans for all flights using authorized navigational processes.
- Computes weight and balance logs for the aircraft being flown.
- Initiates and completes all military flight or maintenance forms to document FCF completion and discrepancies.
- Communicates, troubleshoots, advises and works side by side with military pilots and technicians.
- Determines in accordance with publications and procedures the airworthiness of aircraft prior to release for flight.
- Performs recovery flights and ferries aircraft to additional sites (e.g., depots).
- Performs troubleshooting procedures of aircraft on the ground and during flight and makes appropriate write‑ups or gives verbal instructions to correct deficiencies.
- Verifies forms and records used in the performance of maintenance to ensure they comply with work performed prior to ground or flight checks.
- Runs‑up aircraft for alert status to perform tests on modifications.
- Deploys when required to support contract requirements when FCFs are anticipated.
- Ferry flights as assigned and ensures proper documentation is chronicled.
- As qualified may perform as a site safety specialist and/or additional duties safety officer functions.
- May support AS9100/AS9110 internal audits, corrective action requests, assist section, department, and/or program in developing plans to correct identified shortfalls.
- May assist with continual improvement initiatives.
- As qualified may perform Lead pilot duties as designated by the Site Supervision.
- Must be capable of Aircraft Technical Inspection (TI) as an additional duty.
- Plans and conducts aircraft technical inspections, inspecting power plant hot section, cold section, and accessory modules.
- Lectures, demonstrates, and conducts practical exercises in inspection techniques, procedures, performance evaluation, and operational checks on the power plant, structure, and systems of helicopter powertrains.
- Provides technical guidance to repairs performing aircraft and subsystem maintenance techniques and safety procedures.
- Maintains the technical library, inspects systems, subsystems, and components according to applicable technical publications and checklists before, during, and after airplane maintenance and modifications.
- Checks and troubleshoots systems, annotates records of required maintenance.
- Evaluates operational readiness of aircraft and recommends corrective action.
- Inspects crash‑damaged aircraft and estimates time, parts, and costs to repair.
- Ensures compliance with aircraft configuration control, Army oil analysis program, and test measuring and diagnostic calibration.
- Evaluates maintenance operations and facilities for compliance with directives, technical manuals, work standards, safety procedures, and operational policies.
- Performs maintenance trend analysis and applies production control, quality control, and other maintenance management principles and procedures to aircraft maintenance operations.
- Performs other qualified duties as assigned.
- High school or equivalent required.
- Minimum PIC Hours, 1,000 Hours PIC required.
- Proficient in flying operations of the aircraft assigned (LUH‑72, EC145).
- Possesses a current valid ARMY or FAA Second Class Medical Certificate.
- Possesses an instrument rating on their FAA Commercial Certificates.
- Meets qualification requirements of AR95‑20.
- Currency shall be in accordance with AR95‑1.
- Shall successfully complete annual flight evaluation conducted IAW AR95‑1 and the appropriate Aircrew Training Manual (ATM).
- Has the ability to obtain/maintain Security Clearance (NAC‑IT1) and public trust.
- All Contractor pilots shall undergo and successfully complete (initially and annually) a flight physical IAW Army Regulation (AR)95‑20, service guidance contained in AR40‑501, AR95‑1, and the appropriate Aircrew Training Manual (ATM).
