Overview
The Biologist 1-3 position is within the Office of Fisheries Research & Development Division/Research & Assessment Section and domiciled in Grand Isle/Jefferson Parish. The Biologist 1-3 independently collects, maintains, compiles and analyzes biological and environmental data for Office of Fisheries projects in support of programs to conserve, preserve, manage, and enhance renewable aquatic species and habitats.
Coordinates collection/management of fishery independent and dependent data from sampling programs as assigned. Oversees field sampling and/or maintains data collected from field projects as assigned. Collects biological and environmental data using appropriate equipment, including: longline, trawls, seines, meter squares; trammel, plankton, gill, and hoop nets; oyster and benthic dredges; electrofishing, and other hydrographic and scientific gear.

A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources.

Key Duties Include- Participates in large-scale research projects
- Conducts field sampling and/or maintains data collected from field projects as assigned
- Ensures quality control of data, reports, or other products as needed
- Operates and maintains vehicles, trailers, vessels, and scientific sampling equipment
- Works safely from vessels in offshore and nearshore waters
- Works from remote field stations and/or travels as assigned
- Summarizes data and generates/reviews figures, analyses, and text for technical reports
- Participates in regional working groups as needed
- Represents LDWF with professionalism in all public events and forums
Appointment Type: Probational Appointment, Job Appointment, Detail to Special Duty, Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees)
Career Progression: This position does participate in a Career Progression Group BIOLOGIST 1-3
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
