Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher

This position may be part-time or full-time depending on student enrollment and needs across the member school districts.

The ECSE Teacher plays an important role within the Exceptional Child Education Cooperative, which serves students with exceptional needs across multiple school districts in South Central Missouri. This itinerant position requires travel to multiple school districts to provide specialized instruction and support to young children (ages 3-5) with disabilities or developmental delays.

Performance in this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of Board policy GCN:
Evaluation of Professional Staff.

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related field.
• Prior experience serving early childhood populations in a special education or early intervention setting, or experience in a cooperative, multi-district, or itinerant model is preferred.

• Valid Missouri teaching certification in Early Childhood Special Education.

• Strong working knowledge of special education law, eligibility procedures, and IEP development.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload across multiple sites.
• Familiarity with early childhood assessment tools and tiered support frameworks.

• Embrace and work continually in support of the district mission of “Expecting Excellence… Learning for All.”

• Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Prepare and lead IEP meetings.
• Document students’ progress toward meeting the established goals and objectives of the IEP.

• Provide direct instruction tailored to students’ developmental levels and needs.
• Use developmentally appropriate practices and evidence-based instructional strategies.
• Adapt curriculum, materials, and teaching strategies to meet diverse needs.
• Maintain an environment conducive to meaningful learning.

• Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and other service providers.
• Cooperate with school personnel in coordinating services within the member district.
• Maintain excellent communication with teachers, principals, process coordinators, or Special Education Directors in each member district.
• Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and strategies for support at home.
• Supply progress reports to school personnel and parents quarterly and as requested.
• Refer students who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate school personnel or community agencies.

• Continue professional growth through educational meetings, visiting related facilities, reading professional literature, and exchanging ideas among colleagues.
• Perform other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Coop Director.

Nine-month employee. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Full-time employees are eligible for a benefit package as established by the board of education.
