OVERVIEW

S&B is actively seeking a Sr. Financial Accountant that independently performs account reconciliations, creates and enters journal entries into the ledger for assigned financial accounting areas, and solves problems that are difficult and complex in nature, under limited supervision.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field is required. Master’s degree preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree with 5‑7 years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field
  • Public accounting firm experience preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, or progress toward one, preferred
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Oracle experience a plus
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Month‑end financial close processes, including preparation of accruals.
  • Prepare journal entries, including recurring entries, for monthly close.
  • Prepare, tie out, and analyze business unit and corporate financial statements.
  • Recognize and investigate unusual variances or apparent inconsistencies within the financial statements.
  • Build, maintain, and ensure the accuracy of financial reports (including documentation of processes).
  • Maintain amortization schedules and prepare monthly schedules/entries in line with the close schedule.
  • Maintain well‑documented work papers and instructions for journal entries and account reconciliations. Review the reasonableness of balance sheet and income statement accounts to confirm all necessary entries are recorded.
  • Prepare and record year‑end job cost accrual journal entries.
  • Prepare gross margin job schedules with percentage‑complete calculations and revenue recognition journal entries.
  • Reconcile employee benefits, employee receivables accounts, accrued vacations and holidays.
  • Prepare and review OCIP & CCIP work papers, monthly reports, and audit schedules.
  • Prepare and review reconciliations for worker’s comp, general liability, and auto insurance & audit schedules.
  • Review & analyze overheads for financials against trends.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts in a timely manner, including intercompany balances; resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Prepare monthly and year‑end financial data to ensure accurate recording in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist in preparing ancillary audit schedules and footnotes.
  • Resolve accounting transaction questions in an agreed‑upon timeframe.
  • Takes the initiative to discuss assignments, expectations, priorities, and deadlines and seeks guidance and coaching from manager.
  • Adjusts quickly to new work structures, processes, or requirements.
  • Maintain and adhere to accounting principles, practices, and procedures in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and industry practices.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals; professional journals; technical procedures; client contracts; subcontracts; and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients and managers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Proficient in the use of standard business financial mathematical functions with the aid of a PC spreadsheet package or calculator.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, and balance. Lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. Requires close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Occasionally, field trips to existing or new plants may be required. This may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and airborne particles.
