Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining general ledger, cash management, posting journal entries and preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for upper management and clients. Must be highly organized and have outstanding communication skills to be successful in this role. In addition to month‑end close responsibilities this team member must ensure weekly bank reconciliations are completed, required critical payments are made, and accounts payable are paid in a timely manner.

The Staff Accountant will partner with the Controller and Senior Accountant to ensure accuracy and timely financial reporting and will also interface with the constructions/development departments and external auditors.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in the preparation of the construction and development monthly financial statements
  • Perform month-end close responsibilities on a timely basis, including completion of the balance sheet workbooks
  • Analyze and review the projects general ledger, balance sheet and income statement for accuracy
  • Prepare and record journal entries as required including but not limited to, prepaids, accruals, depreciation, amortization, etc.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports by assigned due dates ensuring quality and accuracy
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly and make corrections as needed
  • Complete and maintain fixed asset schedules and record depreciation based on company policies
  • Ensure weekly bank reconciliations are completed timely for the projects and follow up with AP for any cash entries that have not been complete
  • Assist in review of invoices entered by development team or construction accounts payable associates
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the construction and development teams to ensure month-end close outs and cash analysis reviews are completed timely and to assist with resolving any issues that arise
  • Assist with refinancing, acquisitions and dispositions
  • Assist with annual budgets and forecasts
  • Prepare year end audit and tax packages and collaborate with external auditors to provide year-end audit requests on a timely basis
  • Work with Treasury to process partner distributions
  • Complete any special projects or ad hoc requests as needed
Qualifications Required Education and Training Degrees and Diplomas

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and one to three years professional accounting experience encompassing similar duties or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations are a plus.

Training, Certificates, Association and Memberships

A combination of education, training, certifications and experience that demonstrates the application and usage of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  • Proficiency in using accounting software’s (Sage
    300, Real Page and Res Man) used by the Company, as well as Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) in order to complete required reports.
  • Must strive to stay updated with evolving accounting practices and standards as they relate to GAAP.
