SUMMARY
The Accounting & Finance department is seeking an Accountant for a contract role supporting a roughly 6 to 9 month assignment. This role will play a critical part in ensuring the accuracy of accounting for operated and non-operated properties. The Accountant will accurately record capital and lease operating expenditures, maintain accurate property and inventory records, and ensure compliance with COPAS (Council of Petroleum Accountants Society) accounting standards and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to recommend accounting process improvements, foster a positive team environment, and be able to communicate monthly accounting results.
- Record lease operating expenses and partner with Operations to ensure all related information is accurate.
- Process monthly JIB (Joint Interest Billing) invoices, prepare standard monthly JIB entries, monthly capital expenditure accrual entries and lease operating expense accrual entries.
- Relevant knowledge of COPAS to ensure expenses are properly recorded and allocated to partners in accordance with JOS (Joint Operating Agreements).
- Analyze partner/JIB receivable accounts to ensure timely and accurate payments.
- JV (Joint venture) audits including JOA, Accounting Procedure, and COPAS reviews.
- Works with internal teams to verify data, resolve discrepancies and maintain high standards of accuracy.
- PP&E accounting including roll forward, work‑in‑process, and in‑service reviews.
- Operations reviews & analytics including LOS (Lease Operating Statements) reporting, budget vs. actuals and Operations reporting / support.
- Maintain and enhance internal control processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
- Prepares balance sheet account reconciliations for assigned accounts on a monthly and/or quarterly basis.
- Special projects as needed.
- Knowledge of Joint Operating Agreement and COPAS accounting principles.
- Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage monthly deadlines.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office required (including Excel and Word)
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in oil and gas accounting. Quorum accounting software experience preferred but not required.
- Energy Link experience preferred but not required.
- Fluent verbal and written English skills.
