Tax Accountant, Tax Manager, Accounting & Finance
The position is responsible for performing various duties within the department, including the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns and work papers for partnerships, S‑corporations, individuals, trusts, and exempt organizations. Research tax issues and opportunities that arise and routinely monitor compliance with federal and state tax law changes that affect McNair Interests Ltd ("MI") entities and stakeholders.
Education and/or Experience- Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Master’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years related experience in tax accounting, preferably with a background in public accounting.
- Experience preparing/reviewing partnerships, S‑corporations, individuals, and trusts. Exposure to exempt organizations a plus.
- Working knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance, and completion of all commonly required entity and personal tax filings.
- Proficiency with GoSystems tax preparation software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications.
- Strong critical thinking, data analysis, and technical research skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with employees, executives, and third‑party providers with poise and diplomacy.
- Self‑starter with strong organization and time management skills; capable of prioritizing and handling multiple projects and tasks.
- Ability to take ownership and full responsibility of work product, both independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and the ability to produce high‑quality work directly or through delegation within designated deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain solid working relationships across the organization and externally.
- Adherence to high personal and professional ethical standards.
- Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information.
- Responsible for preparing/reviewing federal and state tax returns and work papers, including partnership, S‑corporation, individual, trust, and exempt organization returns.
- Prepare/review federal and state tax estimates, extensions, and various state filings.
- Provide guidance and work with other tax team members on reviewing their work papers, tax schedules and prepared returns.
- Take initiative to improve and streamline processes and workflow.
- Assist in maintaining and monitoring a due date list for all tax filings and various other deadlines.
- Interact with accounting, treasury, and investment group personnel as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate with accounting firms involved with MI’s tax compliance.
- Assist with IRS and state agency audits, inquiries, and tax notices.
- Monitor and evaluate federal and state income tax law changes as they pertain to MI entities.
- Research various tax issues and planning opportunities as they arise.
- Perform duties that may be assigned from time to time as directed.
This position includes supervisory responsibilities.
