Sr Project Accountant - Residential Development

Overview

Our client is a well-established real estate developer in the Houston area looking for a sharp, experienced accountant who can handle the full accounting cycle across a complex portfolio of residential and commercial projects. This is a highly visible, hands-on role reporting to the CFO and Controller.

You'll own a wide range of accounting functions including quarterly financial reporting (Book-to-GAAP), preparation of financial statements, and audit coordination with external auditors and third-party engineers. You'll manage loan draw packages for CFO approval, maintain lot sales and land inventory schedules, and process both AP and AR with a focus on accuracy and timing.

Other key responsibilities include MUD reimbursement reconciliation, property tax schedules (annual and rollback), and supporting the CFO on any accounting issues that come up across the portfolio. You'll also work closely with project engineers on coding for new initiatives and help ensure clean, timely month-end and year-end closes.

• Bachelor s degree in Accounting or Finance (MBA a plus)
• 5+ years of GAAP accounting experience, with some public accounting background preferred
• Real estate development or job costing experience is a strong plus
• Proficiency in MS Office with advanced Excel skills; experience with Timberline or similar real estate accounting software preferred
• Someone who works well independently, takes ownership, and doesn t need a lot of hand-holding
