About the RoleThe Staff Accountant (operational accounting) role is responsible for supporting the accounting function through the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, reporting activities, and support of the monthly close process. This position plays an important role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and operational accounting support across the business.
Responsibilities- Prepare and record monthly account reconciliations and journal entries to support the accounting close process.
- Analyze general ledger accounts on a recurring basis and perform financial analytics.
- Support monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for accounting leadership and other business departments.
- Assist with monthly accounting close activities and ensure deadlines are met.
- Provide invoicing support for contract-related transactions.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes‑Oxley, GAAP, IFRS, FERC, and other regulatory standards.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual FERC Form 6 filings, including financial statements, schedules, and footnotes.
- Coordinate and prepare rate and tariff filings in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Analyze current accounting processes and recommend operational efficiencies and process improvements.
- Prepare audit support schedules and documentation as assigned.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities as needed.
- Support acquisition integration activities related to accounting records and processes.
- Participate in cross‑functional projects and support additional accounting functions when necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2–5 years of experience in an Accounting or Finance role.
- Experience in operational accounting preferred.
- Experience with in the pipelines, terminals, energy, or related industries preferred.
- Experience with budgeting, planning, forecasting, financial analysis, and management reporting preferred.
- Public accounting and/or external audit experience preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, FERC regulations, and Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance requirements.
- Understanding of accounting systems, financial reporting processes, and reconciliations.
- Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
- Experience supporting audits and regulatory filings.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Collaborative mindset with strong teamwork skills.
- The ideal candidate demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to work independently.
