Grant Accountant

Openwork is seeking a skilled Grant Accountant to join a respected government organization in Houston. This position offers an opportunity to apply your accounting expertise while supporting grant-funded programs that positively impact the community. Key Responsibilities:
  • Process accounting transactions, journal entries, and financial documentation.
  • Prepare and submit grant reimbursement requests and draw-down packages.
  • Monitor project budgets, expenditures, and funding allocations.
  • Perform account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Review and process purchase requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Track project performance and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
  • Maintain accounting spreadsheets, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with audits, financial reporting, and special projects.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to gather and provide financial information.
  • Apply accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to daily operations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of professional accounting experience may be considered.
  • Experience with grant accounting, fund accounting, or governmental accounting preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
  • Experience with People Soft is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, project accounting, and general ledger processes.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Familiarity with HUD regulations and 2 CFR 200 is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
