Texas Hearing Institute is a Houston-based nonprofit dedicated to serving individuals with hearing loss. Our programs include audiology, speech therapy, familyservices, and the Melinda Webb School. The Finance team supports all of theseprograms by keeping operations running smoothly and the organization's booksaccurate.
Position SummaryWe are looking for a current student to join our Finance team as an Accounting Intern. In this role, you will support our Controller by starting the transactionalaccounting work that the month-end close and other Finance priorities dependon, including accounts payable, payroll data entry, and reconciliations, sothat work keeps moving without delay. This is hands‑on exposure to nonprofitaccounting operations, working closely with and reporting to the Controller.
WhatYou Will Do
- Process vendor payments and employee expense reimbursements, and prepare checks for approval
- Verify purchasing policy compliance and maintain vendor files, including credit card transaction support
- Prepare the biweekly Open Invoice listing for the Controller's review
- Compile timesheets and Personnel Action Forms and assist with semi‑monthly payroll processing
- Prepare monthly account, bank, and credit card reconciliations for the Controller's review
- Maintain daily deposit logs for checks and ACH transactions processed
- Support record‑keeping for fixed assets and the depreciation schedule
- Take on other duties and special projects as assigned by the Controller
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in accounting, finance, or business
- Comfortable working in Excel and Microsoft Office
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
- Reliable and able to commit to an estimated 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule
- Interest in nonprofit finance and accounting is a plus
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate class schedules; estimated 20 hours per week required
- This is a stipend‑based position
