Job Title: Property Accountant

Stone Mountain Management is seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to oversee the financial operations of assigned real estate assets. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance, and delivering timely financial reporting. The Property Accountant will play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, and supporting overall portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain accurate financial records for assigned properties, including income, expenses, and transactions
- Manage property-level general ledger, including rent rolls, bank accounts, and expense tracking
- Oversee lease accounting functions such as rent billing, collections, and reconciliations
- Perform month-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
- Monitor property expenses, including CAM, insurance, and real estate taxes
- Complete CAM, tax, and insurance reconciliations
- Assist with annual budgets and ongoing forecasts; analyze variances
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoice processing and tenant reconciliations
- Perform bank, mortgage, and investment account reconciliations
- Track cash flow and daily banking activities
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records
- Utilize property management systems (e.g., Real Page) for reporting
- Support audits by preparing schedules and documentation
- Prepare and file 1099s and related tax documents
- Collaborate with property managers and internal teams to analyze financial performance
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Experience in property accounting or real estate accounting strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Proficiency in accounting systems (Real Page experience a plus)
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Analytical thinking and financial acumen
