The Staff Accountant I supports the Finance team within Aramark Sports + Entertainment by performing day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining the integrity of financial records, and assisting with the month-end and year-end close process for operations at Reliant Park. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with 1–2 years of experience who is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
The Staff Accountant I will work closely with finance and operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting for food & beverage, retail, catering, and event operations while supporting continuous process improvements and maintaining strong internal controls.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, and recurring entries.
- Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and research and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Analyze event-related revenues and expenses and investigate variances as needed.
- Assist with inventory accounting, cost of goods sold (COGS), labor cost analysis, and other operational financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
- Partner with operations, payroll, and other departments to resolve accounting discrepancies and improve financial processes.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Follow established internal controls and identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes and reporting efficiencies.
- Perform ad hoc financial reporting, analysis, and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associates/ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- 1–2 years of professional accounting experience required.
- Experience in hospitality, sports & entertainment, food service, retail, or other high-volume transactional environments is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Experience reconciling high-volume cash, credit card, or point-of-sale (POS) transactions is preferred.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated sense of ownership, accountability, and professionalism.
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required. Candidates must successfully complete an Excel skills assessment as part of the interview process. The assessment will evaluate proficiency in:
- Pivot Tables
- XLOOKUP and/or VLOOKUP
- SUMIFS and other logical formulas
- IF statements
- Data filtering, sorting, and validation
- Basic financial reconciliations and data analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
