Our client, a leading national construction company in Houston, is looking for a Project Accountant to support their expanding project portfolio. This role sits at the center of operations and finance—ideal for someone who understands construction accounting and enjoys owning the financial side of projects from start to finish.
- Build and manage schedules of values (SOV) at project kickoff and secure client approval
- Prepare and review AIA progress billings, ensuring accuracy and completeness before submission
- Track percent-complete progress and align billings with project milestones
- Maintain organized records of all invoices and supporting documentation
- Oversee invoicing timelines and ensure deadlines are consistently met
- Monitor outstanding receivables and proactively follow up on past-due balances
- Maintain and analyze aging reports, escalating risks as needed
- Communicate with clients to resolve billing questions and drive collections
- Process vendor and subcontractor invoices tied to specific jobs
- Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation
- Review contracts, work orders, and lien documents to validate payment amounts
- Support accurate job costing and financial tracking across projects
- Manage key project documentation including lien waivers, insurance certificates, W-9s, and closeout packages
- Maintain subcontractor compliance and ensure all required documents are current
- Oversee subcontractor systems/portals and ensure proper project access
- Handle change orders and ensure updates flow through to billing and accounting systems
- Add/remove subcontractors and maintain accurate project data in the ERP
- Partner closely with project managers, operations, and finance leadership
- Respond to internal and external inquiries related to billing and project financials
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2–4 years of construction accounting experience (AR + AP exposure)
- Strong understanding of job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, AIA billing
- Experience working within an ERP system (Dynamics 365 is a plus)
- Familiarity with construction tools like Procore or Textura is highly preferred
