A well-established construction subcontractor is seeking a Project Accountant to handle AR, AP, billing, and subcontractor job costing of assigned construction projects. This newly created position will work closely with the accounting team and manage all accounting activities for multiple construction projects.

Houston, TX – North West - Onsite Type of Position:
Direct Hire Responsibilities:
  • Prepare customer-specific invoices in line with contract terms, schedule of values, and AR billing requirements.
  • Establish billing schedules of values upon contract execution and secure customer approval.
  • Monitor AR collections, report delinquent accounts, and maintain an up-to-date AR aging report.
  • Meet all specified due dates for billing and collections activities.
  • Maintain accurate document control for W-9s, certificates of insurance, lien waivers, close-out packages, and other required project documents.
  • Manage contract change order entries, ensuring updated contract values and cost estimates in the ERP system.
  • Create and import project budget files into the accounting system, completing SOV and budget creation within the required timeframe before project mobilization.
  • Provide support to subcontractors via the subcontractor portal and confirm appropriate project access.
  • Process subcontractor invoices promptly and in accordance with contract terms.
  • Resolve vendor invoice discrepancies through 2- and 3-way PO matching.
  • Review AP invoices for accuracy and completeness.
  • Track project costs and adjust cost estimates to maintain accurate “cost at complete” projections.
  • Participate in Cost at Complete meetings, compiling pre- and post-meeting data to improve real-time project estimates.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline and experience
  • 3+ years of construction accounting experience in both A/R and A/P
  • Knowledge of AIA documents, percentage of completion, revenue recognition method, and job costing
  • Previous experience with Certified Payroll a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PPT), Dynamics 365 – Business Central, GCPay, Procore, and Textura platforms.
