Job Description
The Project Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial control at the project level within a dynamic, fast-paced construction environment. This position supports project managers, operations teams, and senior finance leadership by ensuring proper cost tracking, billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting. It is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with construction or contracting experience who enjoys both collaborative teamwork and independent work.
Responsibilities
+ Maintain accurate project-level financial records, ensuring proper cost tracking and allocation for multiple construction projects.
+ Manage project billing processes, including preparing, reviewing, and submitting invoices in accordance with contract terms and project milestones.
+ Support revenue recognition activities by ensuring that project revenue is recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
+ Prepare and analyze job cost reports to provide project managers and operations teams with clear visibility into project financial performance.
+ Assist with Work in Progress (WIP) schedules, including updates, reconciliations, and reporting to senior finance leadership.
+ Perform regular reconciliations of accounts related to project activity, including accounts receivable and other project-specific balance sheet accounts.
+ Enter and maintain accurate data in ERP/accounting systems such as Viewpoint Vista, Sage, or similar platforms.
+ Collaborate closely with project managers and operations staff to resolve billing issues, clarify project costs, and ensure alignment between field activity and financial records.
+ Provide responsive and professional customer service to internal stakeholders, including field and office teams, by addressing inquiries and explaining financial information.
+ Use Excel to create and update reports, including pivot tables, lookups, and basic formulas to analyze project financial data.
+ Take ownership of assigned projects and tasks, ensuring deadlines are met and issues are proactively identified and resolved.
+ Contribute to a positive, high-performing team culture by working collaboratively while also managing independent responsibilities effectively.
Essential Skills
+ Approximately 2 years of project accounting experience, preferably within construction or electrical contracting.
+
Experience with project billing, job cost reporting, and Work in Progress (WIP) schedules.
+ Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems such as Viewpoint Vista, Sage, or similar platforms.
+ Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and basic formulas.
+ Solid understanding of general accounting principles and project accounting practices.
+ High attention to detail with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for the accuracy of financial data.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with project managers, operations teams, and office staff.
+ Ability to provide professional customer service to internal stakeholders and respond promptly to inquiries.
+ Competence in data entry and accounts receivable processes related to project accounting.
+ Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred but not required.
+ Background in construction or contracting environments, particularly electrical contracting, is highly beneficial.
+ Experience using Viewpoint Vista specifically is a plus.
+ Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
+ Outgoing and team-oriented mindset, contributing to a fun and hardworking team culture.
+ Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

This role is 100% onsite and embedded within a construction-focused organization, working closely with project managers and operations teams directly tied to active projects.
