Senior Operational Accountant (JIB & Cash Application)

Ready to take true ownership of a critical function inside a fast-growing oil & gas company? We're looking for a Senior Operational Accountant to be the driving force behind joint interest billing (JIB) and cash application across multiple entities. This isn't a "stay in your lane" role — you'll run full-cycle JIB and operational accounting, lead hands-on cash application, untangle complex reconciling items, and hit the ground running to close monthly cash reconciliations ahead of the fifth workday, every time.

As a senior contributor, you'll shape journal entries and reconciliations, lead joint venture audits, become the go-to JOA/COPAS expert, mentor the next wave of accountants, and help build the processes and controls that scale with a growing multi-entity operation.

• Take the wheel on day-to-day JIB processing for operated and non-operated properties — including revenue processing and analysis.
• Prepare and review journal entries, monthly overhead entries, and cost allocations (insurance, overhead, technology, and more).
• Own account reconciliations, payout statements, AR balance transfers, and complex AP transactions.
• Drive the AFE process — monitoring, project assignment, and repair activity tracking.
• Lead and coordinate operated JV audits conducted by non-operated partners.
• Be the trusted resource for JOA, COPAS, and land matters, fielding partner/owner inquiries via Energy Link, phone, and email.

• Apply incoming cash across JIB/AR, revenue, and miscellaneous receipts — fast, accurate, and across multiple entities.
• Track daily banking activity through banking portals and produce sharp daily cash activity reports.
• Categorize and deposit incoming checks; process and book cash clearing entries for operated revenue.
• Execute payroll funding, intercompany transfers, and related cash entries.
• Keep things clean — void stale checks and maintain airtight documentation.

• Reconcile cash accounts for every entity, every month — done before the fifth workday, no excuses.
• Chase down variances and resolve complex reconciling items with speed and precision.
• Run the monthly close and check runs for assigned companies, backed by sharp supporting schedules and analysis.

• Champion compliance across JIB, cash, and banking activities.
• Keep audit-ready documentation as a way of life, not an afterthought.
• Own annual and recurring projects — 1099s, suspense release, unclaimed property reporting, insurance renewal, and property tax renditions.
• Be the point person for ad valorem (property) tax, partnering with third-party outsourcing providers.
• Mentor junior accountants and step in as backup across JIB, revenue, and cash functions — building the team as you go.

• OGSYS accounting software experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of oil and gas operational accounting experience, with real hands-on JIB and cash application chops.
• 1099 preparation and reporting experience.
• Solid command of JIB, JOAs, and COPAS accounting procedures.
• Proven cash application expertise — applying receipts, solving reconciling puzzles, and closing out reconciliations across multiple entities.
• Proficiency with Energy Link and Doc Vue (or similar JIB/document management systems).
• Sharp Excel skills and an eye for detail.
• Confident communicator who can engage professionally with partners, owners, and internal stakeholders.

• Experience mentoring or guiding junior accountants.
• Track record coordinating and hosting joint venture audits.
• Background supporting acquisition due diligence, final settlement statement review, and system conversions (e.g., ODA, Open Invoice).
• Experience with non-operated property accounting and analysis.
• CPA or actively working toward it.
