Controller, Accounting, Financial Reporting

Core6 Talent is partnering with a privately held, entrepreneurial company in the construction/services space to hire a Controller to lead its internal accounting and financial operations.

The core business generates approximately $15M+ in annual revenue and has grown significantly over the last several years. Ownership is also actively investing in additional businesses, real estate, and new ventures, creating an opportunity for this person to grow alongside an increasingly multi-entity organization.

This is a hands-on accounting leadership role
. We need someone who can own the day-to-day accounting function today while helping build better processes, reporting, job costing, and financial infrastructure for where the organization is going.

• Full-cycle accounting and month-end close
• Financial statement preparation and review
• General ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
• AP, AR, collections, and vendor payments (oversight of staff as well)
• Cash management, banking, and cash flow forecasting
• Payroll processing and review through ADP
• Job costing and project-level financial reporting
• Revenue and billing forecasts
• Fixed assets
• Sales tax and other account reconciliations
• Multi-entity accounting and any intercompany activity
• Financial support for new businesses and any potential acquisitions
• Partnership with the company's outside CPA & outsourced CFO
• Oversight/support of additional accounting personnel
• Development of stronger accounting processes, controls, and workflows

The company has good bones and current books, but it is entering another stage of growth.

Leadership wants someone who can improve visibility into project profitability, strengthen job costing, improve forecasting, evaluate processes and technology, and help create an accounting function capable of supporting a growing portfolio of businesses.

This person will also work directly with construction and operational leaders to understand project performance, identify cost variances and billing opportunities, and maintain current revenue forecasts.

• 5+ years of progressive accounting/bookkeeping experience
• Strong full-cycle accounting experience
• Quick Books experience required;
  Quick Books Desktop strongly preferred
• Ability to prepare, review, and understand financial statements
• Strong understanding of AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, GL, and cash management
• Job costing, construction accounting, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred
• Multi-entity accounting experience highly desirable
• ADP experience preferred
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field

This is an entrepreneurial, direct, fast-moving environment. We need someone who is confident, collaborative, comfortable asking questions, and willing to get out from behind the numbers and understand what is actually happening in the business.

Someone who can say, "Here's what the numbers are telling us, here's the problem, and here's what I think we need to do about it."

You should be comfortable working directly with ownership and operational leaders, taking ownership when something isn't working, and building processes when the answer isn't already written down.

This is probably not the right environment for someone looking for a highly structured corporate accounting department with narrowly defined responsibilities.

For the right person, however, there is significant opportunity to help shape the finance function and grow in responsibility as the organization expands.

Base Salary: $,000, depending on experience

Bonus: Profit-sharing / performance-based opportunity

Schedule: Primarily on-site with flexibility (Core business hours 9-3pm)
