Position: (Pre Award) Research Administrator - College of Pharmacy - (495810 )

Position Overview

The College of Pharmacy is looking for a Research Administrator, either Level 1 (RA1) or Level 2 (RA2), to manage federal, state, private profit, and private non‑profit grants and contracts awarded to the University of Houston.

RA1 – Responsibilities
  • Perform pre‑award and post‑award administration of grants and contracts.
  • Initiate and modify cost centers according to awarded projects and revised award notices.
  • Review proposals to external funding sources from submission to award; ensure adherence to sponsor and institutional requirements; develop and review budgets; ensure compliance with federal, state, and university requirements.
  • Analyze and review contracts in conjunction with the Research Contracts Officer.
  • Evaluate expenditure transfer documents for allowability, appropriateness, and timeliness.
  • Review research sponsor financial and administrative regulations applicable to funded projects.
  • Provide guidance to department and college business administrators and faculty members on all fiscal and administrative grant‑related matters.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Salary: 49,400 - 56,200

Qualifications: Requires a thorough understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge normally obtained through a formal, directly job‑related 4‑year degree or equivalent specialized training. Minimum of one year of directly job‑related experience.

RA2 – Responsibilities
  • Perform pre‑award and post‑award administration of grants and contracts.
  • Serve as team leader for research administration team for assigned college units.
  • Review and submit proposals to external funding sources; initiate the creation of cost centers and modify them when required.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to faculty, department administrators, and university executives on grant and contract issues.
  • Responsible for customer problem review and resolution for research administration team.
  • Develop and implement internal operating procedures for assigned team; coordinate work activities and provide direction as needed.
  • Maintain web‑based proposal submission and research administration using electronic systems.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of grants and sub‑recipient awards with sponsors and awardees; review contracts with Research Contracts Officer.
  • Review research sponsor financial and administrative regulations applicable to funded projects.
  • Evaluate expenditure reallocation documents for allowability, appropriateness, and timeliness.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Salary: 56,800 - 64,600

Qualifications: Requires a thorough understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge normally obtained through a formal, directly job‑related 4‑year degree or equivalent specialized training. Minimum of three years of directly job‑related experience.

Additional Posting Information

Seeking a skilled Pre‑Award Administrator. This position will serve as a junior level administrator within the Office of Research, focusing on proposal and pre‑award activities to enhance the college's research services.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Review proposals for compliance with sponsor requirements.
  • Prepare grant applications via electronic submission portals.
  • Develop and review budgets; ensure observance of federal, state, and university compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate pre‑award aspects of research administration with collaborators and subcontracts.
  • Obtain and manage internal approval process for grant applications.

Experience will be considered in lieu of education.
