Description

The Coordinator of College Events is a vital member of the Conferences and Reservations Services (CARS) team within the Student Centers department in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Houston. This position plays a key role in planning, coordinating, and executing a wide variety of campus events, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional service for students, faculty, staff, and external clients.

Working in alignment with the Division of Student Affairs' mission, the Coordinator actively contributes to a vibrant and supportive campus community through a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and customer service excellence. This role reflects the department's dedication to fostering student success through involvement, engagement, and meaningful campus experiences. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

The ideal candidate will possess a keen attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem‑solving, and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service while building positive relationships with a diverse range of campus and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage special events and activities within the designated college, ensure execution of events, and coordinate day‑to‑day operations of the department.
  • Participate in the development of special events and activities, serve as the primary contact for event information, and handle requests for events facilitated by the College.
  • Coordinate and supervise event set‑up, including conferences, meetings, special events, vendor coordination, room reservation, and audio‑visual equipment.
  • Prepare and process financial documents, and monitor cost‑center activities.
  • Compose event communications for the College, monitor and coordinate event registration, and provide status updates on upcoming events.
  • Monitor and maintain an events calendar.
  • Assist in the preparation of contracts and other procurement instruments needed for services assigned.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline; or basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job‑related 4‑year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in‑depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

    Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job‑related experience. The Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience and is willing to accept experience in lieu of education.
