About Harris County Flood Control District
The District’s core mission is to mitigate the risk of flooding in Harris County which boasts a population of over 4.7 million and includes the City of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States. The District’s responsibilities extend to approximately 1,500 channels spanning nearly 2,500 miles, over 60 regional stormwater detention basins covering more than 10,000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks, such as Greens Bayou.

The District is seeking a professional, detail-oriented candidate for the Call Center Representative role, who will be responsible for performing a wide range of administrative, secretarial, and clerical duties for the Citizen Service Center in accordance with the District’s mission to maintain the Infrastructure.
Essential Functions and Duties Citizen Interaction & Service Requests- Take phone calls from citizens who have complaints against the District.
- Research complaints and forward them to the appropriate office or personnel for resolution.
- Start/close out service requests and deliver resolution details for complaining citizens, as needed.
- Create service request status reports.
- Communicate with the general public and various governmental representatives.
- Compose, type, edit letters, memos, reports, and other confidential documents using a personal computer and word processing software.
- Prepare and/or proofread a wide variety of reports, letters, and memorandums from drafts or verbal instructions.
- Review outgoing materials for grammar, spelling, required signature, and conformance with established policies and procedures.
- Create, update/purge, and maintain files according to departmental guidelines and procedures, protecting confidentiality where necessary.
- Update various internal reports, collect and compile data, and perform follow‑up, as necessary.
- Review reports, projects, and purchase order details.
- Review and route, for approval, the On‑Call Consultant’s invoices.
- Attend seminars, conferences, workshops, recertification, or other training programs as needed.
- Assist with department or District projects as needed.
- Assume additional responsibilities as required, adapting to the District's evolving demands, responsibilities, needs, and objectives.

Education- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver’s License.
- Protect and maintain confidential information.
- Demonstrate professionalism, effective communication, and proper grammar in all interactions with coworkers, the public, and external representatives.
- Work independently and as part of a team, taking ownership of tasks and performing well in an office environment under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Apply strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize, schedule, and complete multiple tasks or initiatives efficiently.
- Read, comprehend, and apply written policies, procedures, instructions, and safety notices; accurately record notes and complete required forms.
- Identify, prioritize, and solve problems using sound judgment, including performing simple mathematical calculations.
- Helpful to have knowledge of SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat.
- Minimum of four years of verifiable experience in customer service and/or secretarial/administrative support or a related field.
- Bilingual skills in English/Spanish.

- Frequent sorting, filing, shelving, and handling documents, books, files, file drawers, and related materials and equipment are required for clerical operations, standing, walking, and prolonged sitting for extended periods of time.
- Occasional stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying items up to 15 pounds, ascending/descending stairs.
- Work is performed indoors in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, air conditioning, and noise levels.
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
