The Manager, Space Planning is responsible for managing the college's space inventory and utilization data to support strategic planning for moves and renovations, managing space allocation data, creating floor plans and ensuring compliance with regulations. This role ensures accurate documentation of all campus spaces, collaborates with academic and administrative departments, and provides data-driven insights to optimize the use of physical assets in alignment with institutional goals.
EssentialJob Functions
- Creates, maintains and updates the college's space inventory database, including floor plans, room classifications, departmental assignments, and usage types.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal reporting requirements (e.g., THECB, IPEDS, FICM standards), as well as organizational policies.
- Collaborates with academic and administrative units to validate space data and support planning initiatives.
- Analyzes space utilization trends and provides recommendations for efficient use of facilities.
- Generates space metrics reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders and external agencies.
- Supports capital planning, renovation, and relocation projects with accurate space data.
- Coordinates space audits and leads continuous improvement of space data accuracy.
- Serves as the primary liaison for space data requests and reporting.
- May be responsible for leading and supervising a team engaged in space planning projects.
- Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
- Understanding of space planning and utilization principles in a higher education context.
- Familiarity with academic and administrative space needs and scheduling practices.
- Ensures compliance with fire, life, and safety guidelines.
- Knowledge of reporting standards for space data in colleges and universities.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design software and other space planning tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and apply institutional policies and space standards.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data visualization tools.
- Strong skills in managing projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk mitigation is preferred.
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Work Schedule And Conditions- Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment.
- Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
- Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in architectural or interior design.
Hiring salary range is: $63,014 - $72,466.
