Description: Manages the day-to-day operations of a large university program or department, including the supervision of staff employees, student workers, programs, or processes.
This position provides administrative and management support to undergraduate programs, outreach projects, executive education and training programs, and academic affairs at the Hobby School of Public Affairs.
ResponsibilitiesAdministrative
- Serves as the primary administrative support for the Office of Student Success on campus during business hours, ensuring smooth day‑to‑day operations.
- Multitasks and adapts to changing circumstances and shifting priorities in a high‑profile environment.
- Provides administrative support for special projects and initiatives as assigned and serves in other matters and capacities as delegated.
- Delivers prompt and thorough responses to internal and external constituencies.
- Coordinates administrative operations, including room reservations, vendor searches, voucher processing, tracking student scholarships and stipends, ordering supplies, seeking quotes, and placing catering orders.
- Attends meetings and provides summaries.
- Handles sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
- Assists with special events, with availability to work evenings on occasion.
Program Coordination
- Supports multiple student, training, and outreach programs and projects led by three directors.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with University of Houston colleagues and students, as well as community partners in government offices, nonprofit organizations, and other universities.
- Participates in recruitment, outreach events, and retention programs.
- Compiles information for various student programs and activities for monthly reports, impact reporting, and other documentation.
Academic Support
- Provides support to the Academic Affairs department with academic programs and curriculum‑related activities.
- Makes website content updates for student programs and academic affairs.
- Assists in conducting orientation sessions for groups of new incoming students.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline; or basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job‑related 4‑year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in‑depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job‑related experience. Certification/Licensing:
