Position: Program Manager 2 - Hobby School of Public Affairs

Department: Hobby School of Public Affairs

Salary: $49,400–$56,200

Position Overview

Manages the day‑to‑day operations of a large university program or department, including the supervision of staff employees, student workers, programs or processes. This position provides administrative and management support to undergraduate programs, outreach projects, executive education and training programs, and academic affairs at the Hobby School of Public Affairs.

Core Responsibilities
  • Plans and develops procedures for administering a large or complex department or program.
  • Manages fiscal activities, including procurement and budget analysis.
  • Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
  • Prepares abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
  • Creates and reviews reports of expenditures and activities.
  • May administer grants and grant‑related communications, scholarships and other operations.
  • Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
  • May serve as property custodian for the department.
  • Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Administrative Support

    Serves as the primary administrative support for the Office of Student Success on campus during business hours, providing administrative support and helping ensure the smooth day‑to‑day operations. Multitasks and adapts to changing circumstances and shifting priorities in a high‑profile environment. Provides administrative support for special projects and initiatives as assigned and serves in other matters and capacities as delegated. Delivers prompt and thorough responses to internal and external constituencies.

    Coordinates administrative operations, including room reservations, vendor searches, voucher processing, tracking student scholarships and stipends, ordering supplies, seeking quotes and placing catering orders. Attends meetings and provides summaries. Handles sensitive information with discretion and integrity. Assists with special events, with availability to work evenings on occasion.

    Program Coordination

    Supports multiple student, training, and outreach programs and projects led by three directors. Develops and maintains positive relationships with University of Houston colleagues and students, as well as community partners in government offices, nonprofit organizations, and other universities. Participates in recruitment, outreach events, and retention programs. Compiles information for various student programs and activities for monthly reports, impact reporting, and other documentation.

    Academic

    Support

    Provides support to the Academic Affairs department with academic programs and curriculum‑related activities. Makes website content updates for student programs and academic affairs. Assists in conducting orientation sessions for groups of new incoming students.

    Qualifications

    Experience will be considered in lieu of education. Education will be considered in lieu of experience.

    Education:

    Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job‑related 4‑year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in‑depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

    Experience:

    Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job‑related experience. Certification/Licensing:
    None.
