Responsibilities
- Prepare, assemble, and correlate information for surveys and one‑time reports required by the Regional Office (RO) or Division management regarding administrative support functions from other divisions and external data sources.
- Process incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communications.
- Review and analyze materials, determine necessary actions, research and assemble background information, and refer them to the appropriate section.
- Edit documents, compose letters and reports, review correspondence for accuracy and completeness, prepare public presentation outlines, and develop standards for form letters and replies to inquiries.
- Liaise with customers to identify requirements for equipment purchase, lease, trade‑in, excess, relocation, and warranty periods; pass requirements to the appropriate Administrative Section staff.
- Maintain the official station control log / history file for circulars, bulletins, and memoranda; assign numbers, dates, and retention folders.
- Review and correct RO’s controlled publications to ensure correct format; update publications issued by SSD and prepare justifications for proposed field station issues.
- Maintain confidential SSD records, including performance, disciplinary actions, awards, and other employee information.
- As a purchase card holder, secure the card, identify correct accounting strings or budget object codes (BOCs) for transactions; maintain receipts and reconcile statements for approval.
- Serve as the principal timekeeper for SSD and, when needed, support other division timekeepers as an alternate; conduct PIV issuance duties and act as a PIV card issuer.
- Receive all SSD visitors and callers, screen telephone calls for the Administrative Officer or SSD Chief, and forward only those requiring direct attention.

RequirementsAll applicants must be U.S. citizens. Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. All applicants are subject to background/security investigation. Probationary Period: A mandatory 1‑year probationary period will be evaluated based on performance, conduct, and whether continued employment advances the public interest. Upon completion, the position may be terminated unless written certification affirms continued employment is in the public interest.
QualificationsMust meet all qualifications by the closing date 07/06/2026.
Time‑in‑Grade Requirement- For a GS‑06 position, a GS‑05 grade must have been held for 52 weeks.
- VBA employees outside the commuting area seeking reassignment to a lower grade must currently hold GS‑06 (or higher) and have a promotion potential of at least None.
Specialized
Experience:
One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS‑05) in the normal line of progression. Experience may include composing, reviewing, and editing correspondence; auditing statistical data; assessing workflow; providing budgetary recommendations; and serving as principal timekeeper.
No education substitution at this grade level.
Physical RequirementsWork requires standing, bending, reaching, and handling moderately heavy materials such as mailbags or paper stock.
Volunteer ExperienceVolunteer work related to national service programs, community, or professional organizations is credited toward experience, subject to qualification equivalence.
Full‑vs‑Part‑Time ExperienceFull‑time employment is at least 35 hours per week. Part‑time experience is credited on a pro‑rated basis; specify average hours per week in the resume.
