Surgery Scheduling Coordinator

Premier Medical Resources is looking for a Surgery Scheduling Coordinator to join our team. The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for checking patient orders, documents received and understanding patient needs to successfully organize and schedule procedures accordingly and promptly. The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator will schedule hospital procedures consistent with the patient's diagnosis and procedure request.

Essential functions include:

  • Communicating with all appropriate parties regarding patient and surgery
  • Ensuring pre-op orders and H&P is obtained
  • Verifying if all authorizations have been obtained prior to scheduling surgery
  • Scheduling and/or rescheduling patient follow-ups and surgery
  • Coordinating with anesthesia provider to confirm case coverage
  • Informing and providing patient with necessary information and instructions prior to surgery date
  • Following-up on all canceled or no-show patients
  • Working closely with OR Manager/Charge nurse to avoid equipment/supply conflict
  • Moving patients through appointments as scheduled
  • Answering telephone and dealing with inquiries
  • Updating patients information into database
  • Scanning and filing into patient docs on the EMR, patients paper chart, or computer folder (as applicable)
  • Managing filing and record keeping activities
  • Alerting Administration of new physicians scheduled procedures
  • Updating daily log of all patients who have confirmed surgeries
  • Submitting information to verification department for pre-authorization
  • Ensuring completeness and accuracy of patients forms
  • Reporting statistics as required
  • Protecting patient and family privacy rights and maintaining confidentiality of patient records in accordance to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements
  • Performing other related duties as assigned to support the hospital

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
  • Ability to communicate professionally
  • Demonstrate organization and ability to manage demanding workloads with accuracy

Education and experience include:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One (1) year experience in medical office scheduling setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire
