Development Systems And Event Coordination
Harris County Public Library uses the role for project coordination across schedules, supplies, communications, budgets, expenses, and day-of event needs. The coordinator serves as a contact for partners, vendors, presenters, staff, and other stakeholders. Branch and department teams receive updates about deadlines, risks, issues, and decisions that need approval.
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency is required, along with the ability to work with databases, project trackers, grant or development systems, and event platforms. The work includes extended computer use, shared office spaces, branch visits, trainings, meetings, and occasional travel to events.
Education And Screening StandardsThe required degree may be in nonprofit management, public administration, communications, marketing, event management, hospitality, library science, education, community development, or a related field. Three years of verifiable experience may come from event coordination, nonprofit partnerships, community engagement, development support, project coordination, public administration, library services, or a related area.
Preferred experience includes public library, nonprofit, foundation, public-sector, education, or community-based work. The role also recognizes experience with public events, donor or sponsor activity, grant work, stewardship, contact records, budgets, reports, and project tracking. Project management, event planning, nonprofit management, or a related certification is preferred, and bilingual ability is preferred.
Houston Library ServiceHarris County Public Library serves unincorporated Harris County and cities without independent library systems. The library system received the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Those service relationships place the coordinator's partner work across public branches, county programs, and community settings.
The position can require standing, walking, bending, reaching, and carrying materials in addition to desk work. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling can reach 25 pounds and may reach 40 pounds when operational needs require it.
