Trendsetter Engineering designs, builds, maintains, and operates Multiplexed Electro-Hydraulic (MUX) Controls Systems for use on a variety of Trendsetter equipment, including intervention systems. Working with minimal supervision, the individual builds, installs, and tests controls systems for subsea equipment in compliance with design and operating procedures and customer requirements. The role requires mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assembly operations using electrical tools, mechanical hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices, while adhering to Trendsetter job requirements and procedures.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Independently completes the build, installation, and testing of subsea controls and equipment per specified procedures and quality requirements.
  • Verifies and installs the correct software and firmware, configuring software for deployment or specific project applications.
  • Performs and leads the mobilization and de‑mobilization process for the controls systems.
  • Works independently and with engineers to design and build custom hydraulic and electrical setups for testing.
  • Operates TEI or customer equipment as required.
  • Performs FATs, EFATs, and SITs as required.
  • Exhibits advanced critical thinking skills in troubleshooting and diagnosing problems found during testing.
  • Operates and troubleshoots the controls HMI independently.
  • Conducts testing on modems, digital and analog controls boards.
  • Prepares layout for assembly operations.
  • Maintains equipment and tools in good condition.
  • Promotes safety awareness and complies with all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
  • Undergoes and maintains all training requirements.
  • Operates Trendsetter Engineering or customer equipment if necessary.
  • Evaluates and interprets data during and after service activity.
  • Promotes teamwork and actively meets customers' service requirements.
  • Makes general equipment repair decisions as needed for TEI controls equipment.

  • Possesses advanced knowledge of reading DWG’s and schematics.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge of hydraulic systems and testing equipment up to 20,000 psi.
  • Can operate all TEI equipment, including man lift, air compressor, generator, and forklifts.
  • Can operate overhead crane and/or jib crane properly.
  • Uses professionalism when working with other departments or customers.
  • Possesses advanced understanding of company HSE policies and procedures training.
  • Shares knowledge and best practices across the company.
  • Mentors other technicians during assembly and testing operations.
  • Planned and executed work independently.
  • Adapts to changing situations with a positive attitude, integrity, and patience.
  • Leads safety program for designated work areas.
  • Generates reports for shop management and adheres to schedule.
  • Coaches, directs, and keeps technicians working safely and efficiently.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting of equipment and directs techs on repair.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Periodic offshore deployment required to global destinations.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a controls technician or electronics technician.
  • Provides daily teaching and mentoring of other subsea controls technicians.
  • Highly advanced knowledge and application of hand tools.
  • Highly advanced in application of AC and DC electrical circuits and theory.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical risks and ESD awareness.
  • Certified or previously completed IPC J-STD-001 (soldering) and IPC/WHMA-A-620 (wiring harnesses).
  • Highly advanced knowledge of communication protocols (RS232, RS485, MODBUS, TCP/IP, CANbus) and 4‑20 mA devices and digital transducers.
  • Highly advanced knowledge of EFLs and subsea wet‑mate/dry‑mate connectors.
