Materials Engineer, Natural Gas Supply Chain Manager

Responsibilities

• Manage key vendor relationships.
• Interact with key end-user gas utility customers.
• Provide technical support to Operations, Marketing, and Sales regarding specifications of gas distribution materials, meters, regulators, risers, prefabricated meter sets, PE pipe, and PE fittings.
• Understand and determine customer technical needs and recommend specific gas materials, products, and solutions.
• Provide customer insight into product lines and current market supply situations for various gas materials, commodities, and manufacturers.
• Coordinate with customers about material requirements needed for the annual planned work and forecast development.
• Assist Sales and Operations teams in developing project bids, special pricing, negotiations with manufacturers, and sharing sourcing knowledge and product options.
• Provide local leadership and direction for the Supply Chain organization, supported by Global direction from the Corporate SCM group.
• Develop and maintain category management plans with knowledge of specific gas material commodity and market information.
• Assist branches in developing project bids with sourcing knowledge, special pricing, and manufacturer negotiations.
• Maintain pricing records and databases, including stock transactions, price catalogs, customer lists, product catalogs, and discounts.
• Jointly develop and maintain gas product inventory strategies in alignment with corporate goals.
• Establish rapport and provide prompt responses to internal and external customers, vendors, and branch inquiries about material specifications and procurement.
• Support the development and execution of specific initiatives.
• Analyze and advance strategic initiatives such as market sizing, vendor profiling, competitor profiling, customer account analysis, and profitability analysis of goods and services.
• Work closely with manufacturers and internal resources to support sales growth and promote key manufacturers.
• Assist in setting up inventory item descriptions, adding new inventory to the system, and ensuring standard nomenclature classification.
• Travel as needed to manufacturer sites, customers, and trade shows.
• Promote a safe workplace by visibly participating, encouraging, and considering safety in all daily activities.

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work/industry experience in engineering and gas materials.
• At least 5 years of experience supporting gas distribution utility materials.
• Demonstrated product knowledge of gas distribution materials specifications, specifically gas utility material.
• Five or more years in customer service, inside sales, and/or warehouse services with increasing responsibility and demonstrated leadership experience.
• Demonstrated competence in the use of computers and software applications.

• Ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.
• Proficient reading and speaking of English to communicate with others, understand safety instructions, and respond to inquiries.
• Ability to understand and comply with MRC Global guidelines & expectations, including Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest guidelines.
