As part of a wider growth initiative linked to our strategic plan, we are currently seeking to appoint a Senior Economics Consultant to join our growing Transportation team.
About YouThe successful candidate will have a clear understanding of public sector economics and policy in an infrastructure, transportation and sustainability context, and be fully conversant with current and emerging research and analytical techniques. We are looking for an ambitious team player who wishes to assist in developing and communicating innovative and effective approaches to the analysis of public expenditure in a collaborative environment.

The economics team in Dublin is part of a 600‑person Transportation Consulting team spread across the UK and Ireland. The team provides economic input into transportation and infrastructure projects, adopting a highly collaborative approach. It prepares Economic Impact Assessments and appraisal documents, including cost‑benefit analyses, with many projects requiring compliance with the Infrastructure Guidelines (IGs) and Public Spending Code (PSC). The team evaluates public spending programmes, creates evidence bases for policy, provides economic advice to government departments and policymakers, and works for private sector clients.
Our current portfolio includes:
- Research & evaluation advice for Transport Infrastructure Ireland, including development of aspects of their Project Appraisal Guidelines and mainstreaming sustainability into transport schemes.
- Delivery of the Detailed Business Case for the DART+ scheme, a major capital investment programme transforming Dublin’s heavy rail network.
- Economics advisory services for the National Transport Authority of Ireland, including drafting business case guidance on ex‑post assessments and developing detailed business cases on active travel investments.
- Long‑term engagement with Failte Ireland to develop early‑stage business cases and strategic assessments for tourism investments.
- Preliminary business cases and cost‑benefit analysis for sporting investments for Sports Ireland.
- Various cost‑benefit analyses for public sector projects and county councils, including public realm improvements.
- Deliver projects with technical excellence, conducting economic analysis and translating results into coherent written narratives.
- Own small to medium‑sized projects, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget delivery that meets client expectations.
- Participate in client‑facing engagements and act as key point of contact.
- Manage client relationships as assignments progress.
- Assist in project management in accordance with AECOM processes.
- Communicate results to a range of audiences.
- Drive sales through effective bid management while ensuring commercial viability.
- Collaborate within multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Contribute ideas and innovative approaches to projects.
- Work with colleagues across AECOM to develop business growth opportunities.
- Guide and develop junior staff.

- Degree/Master’s in economics or related subject (economics, finance, mathematics, geography, engineering) from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
- Excellent technical skills and strong personal initiative.
- Experience in a similar consulting role, relevant public sector organisation or industry.
