Data Analyst
We are seeking a Head of Meteorology to join our Commodities team in Houston. In this crucial role, you will leverage your expertise in atmospheric data analysis and weather forecasting to provide specialized, high-accuracy short-to-long-range forecasts for key energy commodities and regions. You will directly support trading decisions by identifying weather-driven risks and opportunities, utilizing advanced data modeling techniques, and quantifying the financial impact of weather events on supply chains, renewable generation, and demand.

Key Responsibilities- Analyze atmospheric data to forecast weather impacts on energy (power, natural gas), guiding trading decisions.
- Generate specialized, high-accuracy short-to-long-range forecasts for specific regions and commodities (e.g., Gas/Henry Hub and basis locations, Power/ERCOT, PJM, and New England).
- Work directly with traders to identify weather-driven risks and opportunities, providing daily briefings.
- Utilize, interpret, and manage ensemble weather models, teleconnections, and third-party weather data platforms.
- Quantify the financial impact of potential weather events on supply chains, renewable generation, or demand.
- Manage all business Data Science initiatives including business process reengineering that will enable the achievement of strategies and initiatives that increase revenues, reduce costs and/or improve the customer and business partner experience.
- Directly control budget, policy formulation and planning.
- Act as a key contributor to future strategy of Data Quality initiatives.
- Manage a variety of broad-based and complex issues requiring conceptual analysis.
- Apply in-depth industry knowledge;
Apply broad and comprehensive understanding in multiple functional areas as well as underlying business principles. - Develop strategic plans for the function.
- Understand how own function integrates within the overall organization to contribute to achieving business objectives; requires a good working knowledge of the industry.
- Provide evaluative judgment based on analysis of factual information in complicated, unique and dynamic situations; draw on diverse range of internal and external sources.
- Influence and negotiate with senior leaders (across functions); may communicate with external parties.
- Other duties and functions as assigned.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
- 15+ years of experience
- Experience with defining and implementing data science programs
- Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts and experience
- Key requirements include a degree in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science, proficiency in ensemble modeling, and strong communication skills to translate complex forecasts into actionable trading insights
- Bachelor's/University degree;
Master's degree preferred
