Strategic Sourcing Director (Specialty Chemicals)

Synsus is seeking an experienced Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Manager with a strong background in specialty chemicals sourcing (required) to lead sourcing strategy, supplier relationships, and cost optimization initiatives. This role will play a critical part in driving profitability, ensuring supply continuity, and developing a high‑performing procurement team.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, with a focus on strategic partners for core raw materials
  , including regular in‑person and virtual meetings
• Identify and develop secondary and tertiary suppliers for key raw materials to mitigate risk
• Drive cost savings initiatives across direct material spend in chemical categories
• Lead spend analysis and sourcing strategy development to support profitable growth
• Adjust sourcing strategies based on sole‑source, competitive, and leveraged spend environments
• Lead development and execution of RFQs and RFPs
  , ensuring cost savings and value creation
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with Quality, Technical, and Operations teams to ensure accurate sourcing documentation
• Develop a deep understanding of the Synsus manufacturing process to identify key material cost drivers
• Establish and manage KPIs
  , including cost savings, vendor performance scorecards, and inventory management
• Support supplier selection using data such as performance trends, spend history, and lead times
• Conduct supplier and market research to identify opportunities and risks
• Hire, train, and manage the purchasing team, ensuring performance expectations are met
• Mentor team members through training, development, and stretch assignments
• Travel as needed to supplier locations, facilities, and industry trade shows
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Required: Experience in specialty chemicals sourcing
• Minimum of 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or related field
• CPIM, CSCP, CPM
  , or similar certification preferred
• Experience in fertilizer or crop protection industry procurement strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of chemical raw materials and supply markets
• Proven ability to deliver cost savings and sourcing strategy execution
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, multi‑product environment
• Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills
