Grant Program Manager

The Department of Molecular Oncology strives to enhance basic research excellence by establishing a robust research group focused on the molecular and cellular aspects of cancer research, particularly in signaling pathways and crosstalk between tumor and tumor microenvironment in tumor initiation, progression and metastasis, and resistance to various therapies.

The Grant Program Manager's primary purpose is to provide administrative oversight to the grant process for large scale/and or multiple grant activities for the department. This position also requires one to anticipate needs, to recognize situations requiring assistance and have the ability to refer to or perform any necessary tasks and to comprehend the goals of the department. The Grant Program Manager will provide administrative and financial oversight and support for activities in the research mission area.

The ideal candidate for the Grant Program Manager role brings a strong background in post-award grant administration, including preparing and submitting progress reports and establishing and managing grant budgets, along with demonstrated experience in pre-award grant submission and overall grant management. Experience working with major funding agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), and Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) is highly valued, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administrators, and cross-functional research support teams.

Minimum $37.98 – Midpoint $47.60 – Maximum $57.21 per hour, based on a 40-hour work week.

The typical work schedule is hybrid, onsite 50% of the time and based on business needs, with occasional evenings during peak seasons.

Responsibilities

Pre-Award Management

  • Manage grant administration activities for research faculty
  • Coordinate grant application submissions with the Grant Program Coordinator and ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements
  • Communicate with the Office of Grants and Contracts, Office of Research Administration, Office of Sponsored Programs, and the National Institutes of Health regarding grant preparation, submissions, subcontracts, and core grants
  • Liaise with subcontract personnel at collaborating institutions regarding deadlines, budgets, and submission requirements
  • Develop and review research and grant budgets for accuracy and compliance
  • Meet with faculty to assess research funding needs and grant support requirements
  • Prepare and maintain Excel spreadsheets tracking periodic reports and deadlines
  • Process Advance Setup requests and support Multi-Principal Investigator awards such as SPORE and MIRA
  • Assist with proposal submissions during high-volume submission periods

Post-Award Administration

  • Meet with faculty upon award receipt to review allowable costs and grant management processes
  • Provide grant metrics and reporting to the Department Administrator
  • Evaluate research plans, expenditures, and personnel for compliance with approved budgets and milestones
