Overview
UTHealth Houston’s Behavioral Sciences Campus, the largest academic psychiatric hospital in the country, is hiring Admissions Coordinators to join our Admissions team! The BSC offers individualized inpatient treatment options across 23 units on site, including child/adolescent, adult/geriatric, co‑occurring disease, psychosis, and competency restoration units. The Senior Admissions Coordinator provides guidance, mentoring, and operational support to Admissions Coordinators, promotes adherence to hospital policies and regulatory requirements, collaborates with nursing leadership and physicians, and assists in resolving workflow issues to ensure timely, safe, and high‑quality patient admissions.
Schedule- 3 pm to 11:30 pm (rotating weekends and holidays)
The Senior Admissions Coordinator manages and facilitates the patient admission process, requiring strong organizational and communication skills. Under general supervision, the role performs a variety of moderately complex tasks including communication and coordination of pre‑admissions and admissions functions, development of staff schedules, and distribution of assignments and workloads.
Key Accountabilities- Assist the director with the development of the department's work schedule and with monitoring staff assignments and workloads.
- Respond to grievances and complaints in the absence of the manager and director.
- Conduct special studies and projects as assigned; research information and reconcile daily reports.
- Handle inquiries, collect and process documents, record keep, and report complications for all pre‑admissions, direct admissions, walk‑ins, and warrants.
- Coordinate bed allocation and cancellations between HCPI, Probate Courts, and MHMRA services and the Centers of Excellence Units at HCPC.
- Use insurance software systems to search for patients in government-sponsored insurance programs.
- Review all clinical and financial packets to determine completeness and account for all admissions and pre‑admits.
- Perform all discharges, transfers, and program changes in the software system.
- May provide patient property control and conduct searches of all patient property and belongings.
- May interview and communicate with patient and family members to obtain information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and ExperienceAssociate's Degree or relevant experience in lieu of education required; 3 years of related experience.
Physical RequirementsExerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
