Job Summary

thyssenkrupp Materials Trading North America is a leading commodity trading company, part of thyssenkrupp AG. We are currently seeking a motivated Trader Trainee to join our North American team for a 12‑month trainee program, which may lead to a full‑time position upon successful completion. The ideal candidate exhibits curiosity, resilience, a growth mindset, adaptability to change, and a strong team spirit.

Job Description

Location:

Houston, Texas. Domestic travel may be required.

Training Rotations
  • Logistics Rotation:
    Learn how steel products are transported globally, assisting in shipment coordination and logistics management.
  • Sales Operations & Risk Management Rotation:
    Develop commercial discipline and skills in contract management, customer interactions, and risk assessment.
  • Trading Desk Rotations:
    Gain exposure to trading desks, understanding market dynamics, pricing strategies, and supplier negotiations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the purchasing and sales process of steel products, supporting sourcing from suppliers to concluding contracts with buyers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to support new business development initiatives.
  • Assist in resolving claims effectively and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and open communication.
  • Ensure compliance with internal requirements and legal regulations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience:

    0–3 years of related professional work experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for learning about metals and raw materials trading.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
  • Willingness to adapt to a fast‑paced environment and manage risk and uncertainty.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team‑oriented environment.
  • Desire to succeed and become a Trader.
