Position Overview

As a Student Financial Services Specialist at Galen College of Nursing, you will provide information, guidance, and assistance regarding various types of financial assistance, including federal financial aid, state aid, workforce agencies, employer payments, and VA benefits, to facilitate the enrollment, persistence, and completion of students, consistent with the College's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and guide active students throughout their program, including contacting students about missing or incomplete documents, helping them complete forms, reviewing financial aid applications for accuracy, packaging and disbursing aid in a timely manner, supporting alternative financing options, creating payment arrangements, and tracking exit counseling completion.
  • Provide continued support and education to students and their parents on topics related to Financial Aid, including Title IV Federal Financial Aid, eligibility, financial literacy, and loan repayment.
  • Thoroughly document all student communication in the student information system, including email, phone calls, text messages, and meetings.
  • Assist in other phases of financial aid, enrollment, and student support as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and student information, adhering to FERPA, Department of Education regulations, and other applicable laws.
  • Maintain current knowledge of college policies, accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend financial aid training, workshops, and seminars as necessary or requested by the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Position Requirements
    • Education:

      Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
    • Experience:

      Preference for experience with Federal Financial Aid programs and customer financial accounts, though not required.
    • Skills:

      Excellent written and oral communication; strong customer service; organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines; ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion; team player.
    • Special

      Qualifications:

      Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products; ability to access Department of Education websites (NSLDS, COD, CPS, etc.); no prior history of student loan default.
    • Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment:
      Must sit at a computer desk for eight hours a day and be available to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and occasional weekends.
    • Degree of Supervision:
      Minimal.
