The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking an Associate Department Administrator for the Nephrology Section. Nephrology is a super-section under the Department of Emergency Medicine and consists of 33 employees, including 14 faculty members, 9 Advanced Practice Providers, 3 fellows, and 4 administrative staff members. The Associate Department Administrator is responsible for institutional, administrative, financial, budgetary, clinical, academic, and research matters while ensuring operational excellence and compliance across the section.

UT MD Anderson is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Associate Department Administrator collaborates as the dyad partner with the Section Chief on all section and institutional initiatives, oversees critical business operations, and provides leadership for a thriving and growing super-section. The Associate Department Administrator plays a key role in advancing departmental goals, supporting faculty and staff, and ensuring the effective stewardship of resources.

The Associate Department Administrator position is critical due to the section's continued growth and the need for dedicated administrative leadership.

The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated expertise in financial management, operational leadership, human resources administration, faculty support, strategic planning, grants administration, and compliance oversight within a healthcare, academic medicine, research, or higher education environment. Candidates with experience leading multidisciplinary teams, managing complex budgets, supporting faculty recruitment and promotion activities, and partnering closely with physician leadership will be well suited for this role.

This individual will be a confident and emotionally intelligent partner to faculty and physician leadership, capable of managing complex budgets, leading high-performing teams, and driving initiatives that support departmental growth, innovation, and long-term success.

Working onsite 2-3 days per week.

Salary Range: $92,500 - $115,500 - $138,500

Responsibilities Operations, Leadership & Compliance
  • Serve as the primary administrator and chief business/operations officer for the Nephrology Section.
  • Collaborate as the dyad partner with the Section Chief on all section and institutional initiatives and compliance activities.
  • Implement departmental policies, procedures, and systems to achieve operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Establish appropriate lines of authority and responsibility within assigned services.
  • Oversee grants, contracts, and other agreements to ensure administrative compliance.
  • Provide oversight of space management, property maintenance, inventory control, and information systems.
  • Maintain physical and data security standards across section operations.
  • Support compliance with institutional, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
Financial Management & Resource Stewardship
  • Direct planning and forecasting of all financial and budgetary matters based on activity, revenue indicators, and departmental needs.
  • Administer budgets and oversee management of all related company centers and programmatic areas.
  • Maintain primary financial responsibility for E&G Gross Revenue, E&G Operating Expenses, Grants & Contracts
