Ardurra is a multidisciplinary civil engineering services firm providing practical, innovative solutions to public‑sector clients. Our Houston team supports high‑visibility municipal work for the City of Houston, special districts, and local agencies, delivering infrastructure projects that directly impact communities, businesses, and the traveling public.
This position will be supporting municipal infrastructure projects that focus on the construction and rehabilitation of utilities within roadway corridors. This role is heavily oriented toward wet and dry utilities installed beneath or adjacent to roadways, including water, wastewater, storm drainage, and underground dry utilities, with close coordination alongside paving, traffic control, and streetscape improvements.
Primary FunctionThe Infrastructure Inspector is responsible for observing and coordinating construction activities associated with utility infrastructure installed within roadway environments, ensuring compliance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and municipal standards. The Inspector will support daily field oversight, track installed quantities, witness testing, document results, and serve as a liaison between the engineer, contractor, and affected stakeholders.
This role requires a strong understanding of utility construction sequencing within active roadways, including coordination with traffic control, paving operations, and adjacent properties.
Primary Duties- Inspect construction activities related to municipal water, wastewater, storm drainage, and underground dry utilities installed within or adjacent to roadway corridors
- Verify construction conformance with approved plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and municipal standards
- Observe utility installations including trenching, bedding, pipe installation, backfill, compaction, structures, and surface restoration
- Coordinate inspection activities with traffic control, paving, and streetscape work to support safe and efficient construction sequencing
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction details
- Track contractor‑installed quantities and assist with pay quantity verification
- Witness and document testing activities (e.g., pressure testing, leakage testing, compaction testing, concrete testing)
- Prepare accurate daily field reports in accordance with Owner and Ardurra requirements, typically in electronic format
- Coordinate with the Client, testing laboratories, contractors, and utility providers
- Identify construction issues, document deficiencies, and communicate recommended corrective actions
- Serve as a point of contact between the engineer, contractor, and adjacent residents or businesses impacted by construction
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in active roadway construction environments with traffic, noise, and variable weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders or stairs, and lift up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to visually observe construction details, recognize sounds, and adapt to changing field conditions
- Must be willing to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, or holidays as required by project needs
- Valid State Driver’s License, applicable auto insurance, and reliable transportation required
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 5+ years of experience as a Construction or Infrastructure Inspector on municipal projects
- Experience inspecting utility construction within roadway corridors strongly preferred
- Associate’s Degree or civil‑related coursework/certifications preferred but not required
- Inspector training through the City of Houston or similar municipal agency, or 8+ years of relevant inspection experience
- Familiarity with construction management / inspection software (e.g., CIPMS, eBuilder, Procore, or similar)
- Strong math skills with the ability to calculate quantities, volumes, and pay items
- Effective written, verbal, and basic computer skills to communicate with contractors, engineers, municipal staff, and the public
