Overview
Construction Labourers are responsible for performing a wide range of physical tasks on construction sites to support project progress and ensure safe, efficient work environments. This role plays a key part in preparing and maintaining job sites, assisting skilled tradespeople, handling materials, and following safety procedures to help complete residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
Key ResponsibilitiesSite Preparation & Construction Support
- Assist in preparing construction sites by clearing debris, setting up barriers, and organising work areas.
- Dig trenches, level ground, and support basic site layout operations as directed by supervisors.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment safely.
- Stack and distribute building supplies to work areas as needed.
- Perform general manual labour such as lifting, carrying, and moving materials.
- Assist with concrete work, mixing, spreading, and basic finishing tasks.
- Operate hand tools and, where trained, basic power tools and machinery.
- Maintain tools and equipment, reporting any issues to supervisors.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or incidents to management promptly.
- Work collaboratively with other labourers, crew members, and supervisors to complete tasks efficiently.
- Follow verbal and written instructions from the construction foreman or site superintendent.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in construction, general labour, or similar field is an asset but not always required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials and perform physically demanding work.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physical stamina and strength for hands-on work.
- Safe operation of tools and adherence to safety protocols.
- Teamwork and effective communication.
- Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
- OSHA 10 or similar safety training (preferred).
- Certifications for equipment operation (preferred but not required).
